Small Batch Beer Company

What is one thing that makes attending a wedding even better? How about checking out a new brewery the same day! I am often times at fault for trying to cram too much into a single day, but this little visit with all of Mrs. Hacksaw's family was perfect. Small Batch Beer Company in downtown Winston Salem is about as small a batch as you can get to be a brewery. Take a look at the brewing system these guys use!

I'm encourage and impressed by what they are able to produce with this setup.

The location of this little brewery is excellent - with many small art shops and Foothills Brewing Company just down the street.

Outside seating? Huge plus in my book.

The selection of their own beers as well as other offerings on tap and a solid bottle collection (including some ciders) helps round out the overall feel of the bar. TV's and excellent seating abound inside, but outside seating with a view into the brewery was where I prefer to be anyway.

Although they will be producing many many different beers and changing up their lineup all the time, let me give you a quick feel for some of the beers they had on tap at the time.

Beer Reviews

Hop OD Double IPA - Powerfully hoppy in my favorite way - piney and delicious. The hop resins are left in the mouth as you swallow, which is what I think every real Double IPA lover is looking for.

Brown Brown Ale - Darker in color than most brown ales, but this beer nails what a solid easy drinking sweet American brown ale should be. Milder in carbonation but full bodied with biscuity toasted notes on the finish.

Match Day Session IPA - A lower ABV IPA at 4.5% and the name made a lot more sense as we were surrounded in the bar/ tasting room area by a fan club of a European soccer team. A tad more bitterness than I was expecting, but I personally think that makes it all the more sessionable.

With an impressive bottle list to go along with their own unique and ever changing beers, this brewery/ bar stands apart from the much larger Foothills. I'd recommend hitting both of them, but Small Craft Brewing is a great stop by itself as well.
